Top Ten Facebook Scans to Avoid

If you have been on Facebook for any length of time, then you know full well how scam and spam laden the site can be. Scammers love crowds, and there isn’t one bigger than Facebook.

We have created a top ten list of the most common and active Facebook scams to look out for:

1.Profile Viewers and Profile Blockers - These scams promise to show you who has been looking at your profile or who has blocked you from theirs. NONE of these apps work. Facebook doesn’t give the developers access to the data required to create them.

2.Free iPads & iPhones – Don’t be fooled by messages stating you can test and keep an iPad, iPhone etc. These are all marketing gimmicks.

3.Free Facebook Credits – This scam is targeted for the gamers on Facebook. Credits are used to purchase items in Farmville, Cityville, etc. Credits cost real money and you aren’t going to receive a large sum of them for free.

4.Free Items, Gift Cards & Tickets – If it sounds too good to be true, then you can be sure that it is on Facebook! You aren’t going to get free airline tickets, Subway or Starbucks gift cards or a Facebook hoodie just by completing a survey.

5.Breaking News Stories – Anytime a major news story breaks, keep your guard up. Scammers love to trick unsuspecting users with promises of “exclusive coverage.”

6.Phishing Attempts to Steal Your Login Info – If a scammer can get your login credentials, then they can wreck all sorts of havoc before you reclaim your account. Messages pretending to be from Facebook Security is a popular way they trick users.

7.Bogus Chat Messages – A compromised Facebook account uses rogue applications to send scam links to users via Facebook Chat. Be wary of messages that say something like: “hey is this you,” “look at you in this video,” “wanna laugh.” Don’t click any links received in chat until you verify they are legitimate.

8.Shocking & Sexy Headlines – Anything that starts out with “OMG” or “Shocking” is best left alone on Facebook. They lure in victims with outlandish, steamy or perverted messages. These usually end in a survey scam and a video that doesn’t play.

9.Fake Celebrity Stories – Facebook is not the place to receive your celebrity news and gossip! Scammers use fake deaths and other sensational stories to entice users. These often spread very fast, because users share the posts before verifying the story.

10.“Help I’m Stranded and Need Money” – If you get a message from a friend stating that they are stranded in London or some other exotic locale, don’t rush down to Western Union to send them cash. They have likely had their Facebook account hi-jacked by scammers.

There you have it! This is not an exhaustive list by any means, but certainly gives you a good start on what to look out for.

These scams can spread Wall to Wall between users by click-jacking and like-jacking attacks, rogue applications and Fake Events, etc. Scammers will exploit any method they can, and sometimes can be quite creative. A common end game is a survey scam, but others are more malicious in their intent. Many users have received trojans, viruses and other malware infestations by falling victim to scams on Facebook.

Here it is April already. We are still in Tucson where we will celebrate the high school graduation of my grandson in May. The we will turn the old RV heading home.

Well, here it is almost Christmas. We have been spending time with the family here in Tucson. I have been helping my son in law with is pool cleaning business. You know what a pool is right? A hole in your backyard you poor money into.
Fe is in Hawaii until December 28th. So, for the near future we will just be hanging out here and looking forward to our RV trip to Branson, Mo the last of March and first part of April. That will be for a submarine reunion for the USS Wahoo (SS565).
We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and a great New Year.

Making Our Break

Well, they tell us that the Pacific Northwest can expect the worst winter in 60 year. We are taking our RV and making our annual break to Tucson on the 22nd of November. Hopefully we will leave the cold weather and snow nipping at our heals. That is the plan anyway. Stay tuned.

It has been a poor summer for weather in the Pacific Northwest. Seems like we had about a week of what you could call hot weather. I'm not sure what that means for the coming winter.

Week End at Westport, WA

We have a great time at Westport, WA this past week end as guest of Virgil and Donna Ford and the Everygreen Holiday Rambler club. Westport, WA is located at the tip end of a Peninsula at the south entrance of Gray Harbor on the Washington State coast. Lots of great food including some wonderful fish and chips at the One Eyed Crab. We also so a great exhibition of kite flying. Along with us was my granddaughter Kasondra Santalella and her boy friend Devin Kelly. They are from Tucson getting away from a hot summer.

The Greatest Generation seen celebrating V-J Day (Victory in Japan) 65 years ago, most of whom are almost all gone now. God Bless them. The film was taken along Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki, capturing the spontaneous celebrations that broke out on hearing the first news of the Japanese surrender. Taken with Kodachrome 16mm film. This is what Waikiki used to look like, before all the high rises came later.

In some area of the country people live in a fringe cell area. That is was us the problem we had. Close to a window we had 1 to 2 bars. Move about in the house and you would get "searching". Okay, now we live on the Hood Canal and are a bit out in the woods. That is okay and it is nice here AND it is not AT&T's fault that we live in a fringe area. So, I was happy when they offered the Micro Cell. It plugs right into my Internet service cable and make my house a Micro Cell tower just for us. You do have to pay for the equipment but there is not monthly charge. Though some people feel that AT&T is ripping us off and that they should pay for the poor service here, I don't agree for the reason stated above. I LIKE IT!

Spring Is Coming Back

Yes, spring is coming back but very slowly. Day time temps are in the bid to high 60s. The past two days is has been overcast and raining off and on. So far the neighbors are telling me that it was nicer weather here in January than in April. Go figure. Anyway, the RV is parked on the pad and work on it and the yard are slowly starting. I still think we came back from Tucson too soon.

We Came Home Too Soon

We came home much too soon. The temp in Jan was higher than here in April. And SNOW? Yep, this is what we woke up to the third day back.
As of this writing on April 14th we have had a couple of day os sun AND they say that Spring is coming back. 37 last night and maybe around 62 to 63 today.
So, it is time for yard work, cleaning up the RV and, oh yes, taxes.

The Rain Has Come

Well, Fall is official here. Started raining yesterday and still going. That is normally the kind of weather we have this time of year. We were just lucky this summer and had lots of dry days. Looks like this winter might be calmer than normal. It will be nice after last winter. The only problem is the Olympics in Vancouver, BC. They are worried about not enough snow. Lets hope for the best. The red roof is our place.

Yes, I need to pay more attention to my blog.
Well, up here in the Pacific Northwest we are in the last throws of summer. Yes, I know it is already Fall but we have had some good late weather. You can feel fall in the air but next week we are suppose to have some days in the 70s. That is unusual for this time of year. And we have not had a lot of rain for months. Hopefully that is a sign of a mild winter. Washington can use it after last winter.

yesterday Sunday Aug 30th, 2009. Neighbors and friends joined in. These were Dungeness crab taken from the waters around Whidbey Island in Puget Sound. Each crab was a full plate full. Thanks Virgil and Donna.

$$$$$ Some people say that a garage sale should be held on a Friday or Saturday. I thought Sunday would be the best day. Maybe I was wrong. We sold more to our neighbors that we did to people coming by. I advertised in the local paper, Graig's list and put out three signs.
I thing we only had about 5 cars stop by. We did make some sales but next time we will try it on a Friday and Saturday. About a month. $$$$$

Honda Fit 2009 Basic to Sport Model

OK, here is our Honda Fit 2009 after adding parts to take if from a basic model to a sport.
I added a new grill, fog lights, outside window shade vents, spoiler, rear hatch chrome strip, chrome exhaust tip and chrome wheel covers. Inside was added a center console arm rest with stowage.
So far after 550 miles we are still getting a little over 40 miles to the gallon. Love it.

Started installing the new Fog Lights today. Had to remove the bumper (fascia) of the brand new car. Holes are cut in the picture. Installation went fine. Just internal wiring to do tomorrow. Looks good. More picture of the complete make over coming soon.

OK, I gave up and ordered the more expensive Keyless entry key. At least it is $50 cheaper than from the dealer and my dealer said they would program it for fee.
Today my fog lights arrive. It will require the removal of the front facial (bumper).

Keyless Didn't Work

I got my keyless entry fob for the Honda today. It didn't work as advertised. The Honda dealer says this one cannot be programed to this car. So, back to square one; after I get my money back.

Grill, Exhaust and Sun Shields Installed

OK, today I got the new grill, chrome exhaust and dark sun shield over each door installed on the Honda Fit. I got the keyless entry and a reduced price and my local Honda dealer said they would program it at no cost. All that is left for now is installing the fog lights when they come it. I have almost taken it from Basic to a Sport. Great car. Oh, 41 MPG so far.
